Our process starts with a concise enquiry, an acceptance check and agreed scope and fees, followed by document review and clear communication.
01 — Explain the question
Send a short account and a suitable contact method. Identify any notice or approaching date at the outset. Keep the initial information limited to what is needed to understand the request, without sensitive attachments.
02 — Check whether the firm can act
The nature of the matter, jurisdiction, conflicts and capacity are considered. More information may be needed before a next step is proposed. An enquiry or preliminary response does not by itself begin representation.
03 — Agree the scope
Work, deliverables, fees, expenses and communication are defined. The engagement should distinguish covered work from additional instructions and identify any necessary authority or original documents before the relevant step.
04 — Review and discuss options
Facts and records are organised, gaps identified and options discussed in practical terms. The deliverable may be advice, a draft agreement, a plan or representation in a defined procedure, depending on the instruction.
05 — Respond to developments
New records or facts can affect the assessment. Their implications and any required client decision are explained. Material additions to scope should be discussed before they proceed so that expectations remain clear.
Make the consultation useful
Prepare a one-page chronology, the main documents and three questions you want answered. Explain what has already happened and what has not. Include facts that may be unhelpful to your position; a complete picture supports a better assessment.
